"Novel Chemistry under Extreme Conditions" Focus Topical Session at 2017 APS March Meeting

March 13-17, 2017
New Orleans, LA
A Focus Topical Session “Novel Chemistry under Extreme Conditions” will be held at the APS 2017 March meeting in New Orleans, LA, March 13 – 17, 2017.

This Focus Topical Session will explore emerging new chemistry and physics of materials under pressure, including the following areas: (1) synthesis and prediction of novel compounds with atypical or unusual compositions under pressure; (2) the observation and prediction of high-pressure electrides and the mechanism of their formation; (3) new types and features of chemical bonding unique to high pressure environments; (4) the reactivity of ‘noble’ elements under pressure; (5) emerging physics in new materials such as topological insulators and superconductivity; (6) other novel phenomena uncovered by recent experiments and theory. The session will also provide an opportunity to meet colleagues and experts in the field.

The deadline for submitting an abstract is Nov. 11, 2016. The sorting category is 16.1.2.
