Muhtar Ahart conducts research in high-pressure physics that is aimed largely at problems in ferroelectrics, relaxor ferroelectrics, polymers, and novel materials. He uses light scattering spectroscopy, synchrotron x-ray diffraction, and diamond anvil cell techniques to study the pressure effects on the classic ferroelectric, relaxor ferroelectric, and polymer materials, particularly, in investigations of elastic, piezo-properties and structural phase transitions in these materials. He is also active in multimegabar experiments on simple molecular systems using techniques such as synchrotron infrared spectroscopy.
