Hydrogen under Extreme Conditions on Ultrafast Time Scales

A team of scientists Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory scientists, Jonathan Crowhurst, Mike Armstrong, Joe Zaug, and Kwei-Yu Chu, produced a video on “The Behavior of Hydrogen Under Extreme Conditions on Ultrafast Timescales.” It is an impressive illustration of shock wave compression of solid precompressed hydrogen involving compression, dissociation, super heating, melting, and metallization in a diamond anvil cell.
